National and Regional Awards

These awards are designed to give special recognition to students and professional staff within the region for their creative energy, enthusiasm, and outstanding abilities. These awards are meant to recognize students and staff who have gone above and beyond their position description. To be considered, the nominees must have been involved in orientation between January and December. Professional staff members must be a current NODA member for consideration.

Outstanding Student Leadership Award

We will select two winners for this award, one will be from a four-year institution and one will be from a two-year institution. If we don’t have any nominations from a two-year school, two student leaders will be selected from the pool of candidates.

The rewards for the selected student orientation leaders from each region include:

  • Certificates of recognition and a letter from the NODA President
  • Plaque presented at the Regional Conference
  • Recognition at the Annual Conference
  • Waiver of Regional Conference Fee
  • $100 Gift Certificate to the student’s campus bookstore

Nominations for Outstanding Student Leadership must include all of the following:

  • The nominee’s name, institution, class standing, address, phone number and email address
  • The nominator’s name, institution, title, phone number and email address
  • A description of the leadership skills of the nominee.
  • A description of the complexity of the organization and the complexity of tasks performed by the nominee.
  • A description of the level of impact which the performance of this nominee has had on various areas of the institution.
  • A description of the amount of time which the nominee has invested in orientation and the level of spontaneity of the invested time.
  • A description of how the nominee went above and beyond the expectations that were established.

Outstanding Orientation Professional Award

Nominations for Outstanding Professional Award must include all of the following:

  • The nominee’s name, institution, class standing, address, phone number and email address
  • The nominator’s name, institution, title, phone number and email address
  • Please describe how the nominee has demonstrated outstanding contributions to the orientation, retention, and transition profession (e.g. research, publications, presentations, etc.).
  • How has the nominee shown development or enhancement of a model orientation, retention, and transition program that meets the varied needs of students?
  • Please describe the nominee's outstanding leadership within the association.
  • How has this individual shown commitment to the field of orientation, retention, and transition?
  • How has the nominee shown service to student personnel and to higher education?
  • How has the individual extended the scope of the orientation, retention, and transition profession beyond his/her institution?

The rewards for the selected orientation professional include:

  • Recognition at the regional and annual conferences
  • A framed certificate
  • Candidate for the Annual NODA Outstanding Professional Award
